Dear William,
Thank you for taking the time to read my work and thank you for sharing your thoughts on the matter.
As you have correctly pointed out, one of the key demands for cryptocurrencies, in particular, Bitcoin would no doubt come from bad actors. To this, I would also add that individuals living in countries with strict capital controls would also find value in using Bitcoin to facilitate capital flight (which is why China is adamantly opposed to Bitcoin, but strangely seems to look the other way on other cryptocurrencies).
For now at least, other than (perhaps) as a store of value, or as a tool of speculation, there are limited use cases for Bitcoin as a currency — but perhaps that despite it’s creator’s vision to create a usable currency in the sense which we understand it under present circumstances, maybe the fact that we have started the conversation over what the transfer of value should even be is the greatest gift that cryptocurrencies have given us.
Thank you for contributing to the discussion.
Yours,
Patrick
