Dear Rogue 4 Gay,

Thank you for taking the time to read my work and thank you for sharing your thoughts on this subject.

When you live in a large liberal democracy and you have access to the world’s global reserve currency, it is understandably difficult to fathom the challenges and struggles faced by billions of people around the world, for whom cryptocurrencies represent an exit strategy from an otherwise oppressive existence.

For those in the developed world, setting up a bank account is an inconvenience, for the rest it’s an impossibility, using a credit card is a lifestyle choice, for the rest it’s a fantasy and transferring money without having to pay up to 7% in fees? That’s the stuff of fairy tales.

All too often it’s easy to be taken in by the argument that cryptocurrencies are nothing more than a scam and as an accessory to criminal activities.

But such one-sided perspectives fail to acknowledge that nothing as ideologically nuanced as cryptocurrencies is ever as cut and dried.

For those of us in the developed world, our access to financial services and opportunities is taken for granted, for the billions who are outside this system, therein lies the pipe dream, for them cryptocurrencies represent much more.

Yours,

Patrick
